When Hellen Keller (1880-1968) was nineteen months old, she became sick with a fever. The sickness ;eft her withour sight or hearing. She couldn’t see or hear. Because she was so young when she lost them, it was hard for her to learn to communicate. But she was extremely intelligent and learned different ways to communicate. For instance, she learned to understand speech by touch the speaker’s lips and throat. She learned that everything had a name. When she was an adult the gave lectures (with her teacher’s help) and wrote many books.
